HR Generalist & Manager (Health & Safety, Employee/Labour Relations Specialist- other )






                                                                                                                            






On behalf of our client in the Hospitality industry (Premium brand Hotels and a conference) we are on the search for an Jr to Int. HR Coordinator, Health & Safety  /  Employee Labour Relations Specialist to join their growing HR Team in a key role. This role reports to the Director of HR.

This is an  'on-site' role, centrally located in Ottawa. 






  






Compensation is 95-100k+perks (and full 'management' benefits). 






 






The objective of this role is to serve as a trusted advisor and partner to the organization, ensuring alignment of human resources and employee/labour relations functions with the company’s business objectives.  This role encompasses a broad spectrum of responsibilities, focusing on managing and enhancing the relationship between the organization and its workforce. This role will be working with the staff, management, and unions to foster a positive and collaborative labour relations climate. Together with the Human Resources Director they will create and implement strategies to enhance and improve relationships across the organization. WRT to Employee/Labour Relations the incumbent will collaborate with unions, staff & managers to foster collaboration and will play a critical role in developing and maintaining trust across the organization.






 






 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                                                                                                              






This position is responsible for the following tasks:












Human Resources Partnership:






·         Provide employee and labour relations consulting services, representation, advice, and support to management and staff on relevant employee and labour related issues, including interpretation and application of collective agreements on matters involving employee discipline, performance management, harassment, conflict, and other related issues.






·         Oversee the implementation of employee engagement initiatives to enhance job satisfaction.






·         Partner and collaborate with the Human Resources Director to develop and coordinate an effective performance management process that aligns with the company’s culture.






·         Establish a performance-driven culture, that will encourage continuous improvement and accountability across the organization.












Labour Relations Partnership:






·         Support hiring managers, department heads and leadership teams on tactical approaches to union and performance matters.






·         Analyze, interpret, and advise on a wide range of complex employment and labour relations matters and the application of various employment related documents, including collective agreements, legislation, policies, procedures, etc.






·         Act as a resource for information pertaining to employee/labour relations issues in accordance with organizational policies/procedures/collective agreements.






·         Establish positive working relationships with all clients and stakeholders including union representatives, managers, employees, and others to foster a positive and co-operative/collaborative working climate.






·         Maintain in-depth knowledge and understanding of unionized workforces, collective agreements, work issues and leading decisions.






·         Conduct investigations into complaints and other matters such as harassment, discrimination, conflicts, etc., write detailed reports and recommend appropriate disciplinary and/or administrative actions, when necessary.






·         Work with front-line managers to support attendance management.






·         Partner and collaborate with Human Resources Director to develop and deliver training programs to management on employment and labour relations matters.






·         Utilizes and “open door” policy to acknowledge staff and manager issues/concerns in a timely manner.






·         Apply sound judgment in directing employee enquiries appropriately, escalating and resolving requests, as required.






·         Ensure employee issues are referred to the Department Managers for resolution or escalated to the Director of Human Resources, as required.






- Other duties will include working with WSIB claims, and general Health & Safety policies and issues 






  


Required Qualifications :

Desired Qualifications


·         Post-secondary education in labour relations or human resources or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; hospitality sector experience preferred.


·         5+ years’ progressive experience and responsibility in labour relations/human resources, experience in unionized environment, inclusive of experience in labour relations, investigations, discipline and discharge, performance management.


·         Demonstrated collective agreement experience, conflict management and negotiation skills.


·         Excellent planning, organizational, prioritization and time-management skills.


·         Significant coaching and mentoring skills.


·         Excellent verbal & written communication, report writing and presentation skills, critical thinking, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.


·         Extensive in-depth knowledge/experience in legal principles, legislations, policies, and labour relations management.


·         Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment.


·         Strong leadership skills & the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.


 


Preferred:


·         Bilingual in French is considered an asset.
